Let's Catch Up

The First Time

I knew 2014 was going to be a hell of a year…

Before the ball had even dropped on New Year’s Eve, I knew this year was going to be a year of so many “firsts” for me. Boy, was I right.

It’s only March, but the “firsts” are rolling in and it’s so bittersweet. Taking the good with the bad is all part of this wild life…

I lost my first grandparent.

I finished the first of my final college courses.

I went line dancing for the first time.

I went on my first Tinder date.
Side note: It went well considering the negative connotations associated with the app. Good food, good beer, good conversation, and thoughtful text messages after the fact.

I started my first blog.

Tomorrow I am taking my first trip to a city I have only previously driven through (more on that when I return!)

The list will grow as the year rolls on. Come June, I will be supporting myself 100% for the first time and beginning my first professional fashion/retail industry job I landed in NYC.

Me in New York for the first time!

These firsts are already beyond my wildest dreams; I’m looking forward to all of my firsts in 2014 and beyond.

Have you had any firsts this year? I would love to hear!

xx.

Do You Mind If ‘Eyebrows’ a Little Bit?

Step away from the tweezers…

No really, bold brows are in style to the delight of busy ladies everywhere.

Instead of painfully plucking away what the good Lord gave you, it’s time to bring the drama with your brows in a few simple steps. I am no makeup maestro, nor do I claim to be, but I have found a quick and easy morning eyebrow routine that works for me…

1 – Comb through your brows to separate the hairs and create an arch.
2 – Use an eyebrow pencil complementary to your hair color to fill in
your brows and draw the arch outline.
3 – Set the look with a few swipes of brow gel
4 – Dab some highlighter underneath brows for a “lift”

Not only will your eyebrows frame your eyes nicely, it will also draw attention up and away from traces of lack of sleep or too many glasses of wine the night before. Many mornings I will define my brows, put on a swipe or 2 of mascara and be out the door in a (put together-looking) rush.

The inspiration…

Mirror, Mirror on my Face?

Ask anyone who knows me… You will always find me in a pair of aviator sunglasses. Ask that same person how much I like winter and they will roll their eyes and let out a sigh as they are likely more tired of my complaints about the weather than they are of the weather itself. In an attempt to cure my winter blues/spring fever, I wanted to add a new pair of aviators to my collection to feel that sense of newness that comes with the changing of the seasons. This spring brings us a new twist on an old stand-by, the colored mirror aviators. I picked up a pair at Forever 21 in Indianapolis to give the trend a shot and two weeks later, haven’t taken them off. If classic aviators are a passing glance, the colored mirror aviators are an all-out stop and stare. The bright, reflective lenses beg for attention while maintaining the classic, cool appeal of a more traditional aviator.
